Arie op de Hoek Café Debuts in Amsterdam

Studio Modijefsky has unveiled its design for Arie op de Hoek, a new F&B concept housed within a structure from 1876 in the De Pijp section of Amsterdam. The quaint café is the sister concept to nearby bistro Bonnie, which Studio Modijefsky completed last year.

Conceived as a modern “brown café,” Arie evokes a refined materiality that infuses a sense of history. “The ‘old brown bars’ (in Dutch: bruin café) are classic spots in the city, well-known to locals and part of the Amsterdam characteristic atmosphere,” says Studio Modijefsky founder Esther Stam. “We wanted to give the guests a feeling of a bar that has been there for a while already, and at the same time had this fresh kick.”
