Gran Meliá, the luxury brand by Meliá Hotels International, is finalising all the details of its latest project in Barcelona, which will be ready to open in early 2024: Torre Melina, a Gran Meliá Hotel. The company, which earlier this year announced the addition of this iconic property (the former Rey Juan Carlos I Hotel) to its portfolio, along with the Palau de Congressos de Catalunya, has decided to pay tribute to the site’s history and heritage by naming the hotel Torre Melina in honour of the old manor house with the same name, which dates back to the 12th century and is located on the same plot of land as the hotel.
