As the world gradually moves past the impacts of the recent global pandemic, travelers are demonstrating a robust appetite for exploring new destinations both domestically and internationally. According to the IMG annual Travel Outlook Survey for 2025, an overwhelming 96% of respondents intend to travel internationally, which is a clear indicator of the pent-up demand for travel experiences abroad. Moreover, a substantial number of these individuals, more than half, are planning to embark on at least three international trips throughout the year. Domestically, the trend is equally strong, with 85% of respondents planning to travel within their home country, and more than half of these planning three or more trips.

The survey also sheds light on the varied travel styles that will dominate 2025, revealing urban tourism as the most popular choice for 53% of respondents. Visiting family abroad follows closely behind at 51%, highlighting a desire to reconnect with loved ones after prolonged periods of separation. Beach vacations and rural tourism are also set to see significant interest, with 42% and 40% of travelers respectively planning these types of trips. In addition to these trends in travel styles, spending habits are also expected to shift, with nearly 29% of respondents indicating they plan to increase their travel budget compared to the previous year.

A notable rise in solo travel is anticipated, with 48% of respondents planning trips on their own, showcasing a growing trend of individual exploration and self-discovery journeys. Likewise, business travel is seeing a resurgence, with 57% of respondents intending to travel for work, marking a 7% increase from the 2024 survey. Top concerns for 2025 travelers include the fear of falling ill or having an accident at their destination, the need to cancel trips before departure, and potential transportation issues.

Preferred destinations for 2025 remain diverse, with Canada, Italy, Mexico, Japan, and France emerging as the top choices among respondents. This preference underscores the variety of cultural and recreational experiences that these countries offer. The survey data presents a comprehensive snapshot of travel intentions and concerns for the upcoming year, illustrating the resilience of travelers and their readiness to face new adventures while being mindful of potential risks. The findings from the survey clearly depict an optimistic yet cautious approach to travel as individuals plan their getaways for 2025.
