Is IHCL’s New Vivanta Hotel in Surat a Game Changer for Gujarat?

January 22, 2025

The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has made headlines with its announcement of the new Vivanta hotel in Surat, Gujarat. This strategic decision is part of the company’s broader vision to bolster its presence in India’s key commercial hubs. Suma Venkatesh, the Executive Vice President of Real Estate and Development at IHCL, emphasized Surat’s remarkable economic growth, driven largely by its dynamic diamond and textile industries. This economic surge was a major factor that influenced IHCL’s choice. The forthcoming hotel, situated conveniently opposite Surat International Airport, promises to be an architectural marvel featuring 125 rooms, an all-day dining venue, a poolside café, a high-performance gym, and a swimming pool, all adorned in Vivanta’s signature contemporary style.

The collaboration with Dashrath Desai, a noted real estate developer in Surat and the hotel’s proud owner, has generated considerable excitement. Desai believes that the Vivanta brand holds the potential to breathe new life into the city, elevating Surat’s status on the global hospitality map. By incorporating Vivanta Surat into its holdings, IHCL will expand its portfolio in Gujarat to 29 hotels, which includes 10 currently under development. This expansion not only cements IHCL’s position as a formidable player in the hospitality sector but also underscores its mission of fusing traditional Indian hospitality with sophisticated, world-class service.

IHCL’s history is as storied as its ambitions. The company was founded by the visionary industrialist Jamsetji Tata, with its inaugural hotel, The Taj Mahal Palace, opening its doors in Bombay in 1903. Since then, IHCL’s portfolio has grown exponentially, now encompassing 360 hotels with 123 more under development across four continents, 13 countries, and more than 150 locations. This trajectory of steady growth and commitment to excellence reflects IHCL’s relentless pursuit of elevating the standards of hospitality. The introduction of Vivanta in Surat is a testament to IHCL’s ambitions and represents a significant step in their efforts to redefine hospitality in Gujarat.

As IHCL continues to expand and innovate, the new Vivanta hotel in Surat is poised to set new benchmarks in the region. The establishment aims to offer an unparalleled experience, seamlessly blending comfort, luxury, and modernity. The potential impact on Surat’s tourism and hospitality sectors is anticipated to be profound, with this new venture stimulating broader economic activity and elevating the city’s appeal as a destination. This bold move by IHCL could indeed be a game changer for Gujarat, offering a glimpse into a future where Indian hospitality stands shoulder to shoulder with global standards.
